The Wellstone Muscular Dystrophy Center of Washington DC is housed within Children’s National Medical Center, one of the top 10 children’s hospitals in the US.

The Center is highly interdisciplinary, including physicians, molecular geneticists, computer scientists, veterinarians, and genetic counselors, all with specialized expertise in muscular dystrophy.

The Center incorporates and integrates an international clinical trial coordinating center (, and state-of-the-art genomics, proteomics, and mRNA profiling research.

The focus of the research in the 5 yr Center grant (2005-2010) is specifically on Duchenne muscular dystrophy.  A press release on the awarding of the Center can be found at the following link.
